LeveledFurnaces Guide
Upgrade your furnaces through six tiers of increasing speed and fuel efficiency. From vanilla stone furnaces all the way to blazing-fast Netherite, each upgrade makes bulk smelting faster and cheaper.
Key Features
Tiered Speed
Each tier smelts faster than the last, from 1× vanilla speed all the way to 4× with Netherite.
Fuel Efficiency
Higher tiers burn fuel more efficiently, so you need less coal and wood to smelt the same amount.
Visual Labels
Placed furnaces display a floating label above them so you can always tell which tier is which at a glance.
Upgrade Chain
Surround your existing furnace with 8 upgrade materials to craft the next tier — nothing is wasted.
How to Upgrade
Upgrading a furnace uses a shaped crafting recipe — you wrap the previous tier furnace in 8 of the next tier's material in a crafting table. The upgrade chain goes one tier at a time, so you can't skip directly to Netherite.
- Start with a vanilla Furnace (Stone tier)
- Open a crafting table and place the furnace in the centre slot
- Surround it with 8 Iron Ingots to craft an Iron Furnace
- Place the Iron Furnace in the centre and surround with 8 Gold Ingots for Gold
- Continue up the chain — each tier wraps the previous one
- Place your upgraded furnace as normal — it works just like a vanilla furnace
Furnace Tiers
Each tier upgrades the previous one. Placed furnaces display a floating label above them so you can identify the tier at a glance.
Stone Furnace
🔥The standard vanilla furnace. Works exactly as you'd expect — no changes.
Iron Furnace
🔥50% faster smelting than vanilla. Your first real upgrade and a noticeable improvement.
Gold Furnace
🔥Double smelting speed with fuel that lasts 50% longer. A solid mid-game upgrade.
Emerald Furnace
🔥2.5× speed with continued fuel efficiency. Great for bulk smelting mid-to-late game.
Diamond Furnace
🔥Triple speed and fuel that lasts twice as long. Excellent for large-scale smelting operations.
Netherite Furnace
🔥The ultimate furnace. 4× speed and fuel lasts 2.5× longer — the pinnacle of smelting efficiency.
Tier Comparison
| Tier | Smelt Speed | Fuel Efficiency | Upgrade Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone Furnace | 1× | 1× | — (vanilla furnace) |
| Iron Furnace | 1.5× | 1× | 8× Iron Ingots |
| Gold Furnace | 2× | 1.5× | 8× Gold Ingots |
| Emerald Furnace | 2.5× | 1.5× | 8× Emeralds |
| Diamond Furnace | 3× | 2× | 8× Diamonds |
| Netherite Furnace | 4× | 2.5× | 8× Netherite Ingots |
Understanding Fuel Efficiency
Fuel efficiency determines how long each piece of fuel burns in the furnace. A 2.0× efficiency means one piece of coal smelts twice as many items as normal.
Vanilla Coal
Smelts 8 items per coal
Netherite Furnace (2.5×)
Smelts 20 items per coal
Combined with the 4× speed boost, a Netherite Furnace is vastly more efficient than a vanilla one for large smelting jobs.
💡 Tips & Tricks
- Upgrade furnaces one tier at a time — you can't skip steps in the chain
- The floating label above each furnace tells you the tier, so you won't confuse them
- Breaking a furnace drops it as the correct tier item — your upgrade is never lost
- Diamond and Netherite furnaces are worth the investment for bulk ore smelting, halving or more your fuel consumption
- Stack multiple high-tier furnaces in parallel for even faster processing
- Furnaces work exactly like vanilla — hopper input/output and all normal mechanics apply
